So after a long time since Ranthambore, the bug cats of India did not disappoint us. After a gap of nearly 9 years and countless trips to Jim Corbett, thr Jhalana Leopard Safari came to fruition when the majestic leopard Rana and his partner Chanda graced us with their presence. And short stroll, a make belief mating attempt and a big growl - was enough to entertain the visitors.

This is a real sanctuary with wild leopards. Went totally against our expectations. Had to wait hours to spot leopards, but worth the effort.

Overall it’s a good 3 hours and if you are a wildlife fan, you can take this safari. We enjoyed the safari as we had a very good driver who understood every call and drove on to catch site of leopard and birds. We did sight a leopard in the twilight resting after the call of a Nilgai.

Jhalana Leopard Conservation Reserve has more than 40 Leopards including 5 cubs. The last tiger was shot in 1948. Jhalana is spread over an area of 20.

Apart from the leopard, striped hyenas also call Jhalana home. Ungulates like blue bulls, spotted deer and some sambhar deer are also present. Desert fox, jackals, rusty spotted cat, desert cat and jungle cats can also be seen. Porcupines, monitor lizards, mongoose and lots of varieties of snakes are in abundance here.

Overall, Jhalana is a better choice for visitors who are looking for the best possible chance of seeing a leopard and who are comfortable with a more traditional safari experience.

All three zones in Jhalana Leopard Reserve are equally good for spotting leopards and other wildlife. The terrain in each zone is different, but all zones offer a variety of habitats that leopards and other animals favor.
